Pranayama and Meditation

Pranayama and MeditationAppropriate for all students who are interested in practicing breath work (from gentle to vigorous) and then quieting the mind to increase awareness and appreciation of the present moment. This class will provide the opportunity for students to explore yoga that is not driven by asana (postures) alone. Students will be guided through creative pranayama and mudra (hand gestures) sequences to unlock energy, and will then transition into a meditation practice. Seated meditation will often be the foundation, but a variety of techniques can be employed from class to class including guided meditation, walking meditation, mantra (repetition of meaningful sounds or words) meditation, mindful journaling, and metta practice (repetition of loving and kind wishes for others).
